20 May China Open To Negotiating Resolution To Tariff Disputes
China’s Ministry of Commerce has confirmed that it is willing to work with the Australian government to resolve the wine tariff dispute. This wine tariff, which was placed upon Australian wine producers in November 2022, saw wine exports to China fall from $1.3 billion per annum to $12 million in 2022.
This announcement, in conjunction with China’s Foreign Ministry’s recent statement that it is open to resolving trade disputes with the Albanese government, has created hopeful sentiment amongst Australian exporters in other product sectors that this will also, over time, apply to them.
