18 Mar China Announces Intention To End Wine Tariff
This week has seen the Chinese government release an interim recommendation that the duties on wine are no longer necessary.
This recent announcement has raised hopes that the removal of the tariffs which hit peaks of 200% on wine and resulted in Australia’s annual wine exports to China plummeting from AU$1.2 billion to less than AU$10 million annually, is just mere weeks away.
This welcome development is perceived as a positive step towards the resumption of trade with what was formerly, Australia’s largest export market.
The removal of tariffs will be a very welcome relief to Australian winemakers as they await the opportunity to re-establish their wine portfolios in China and let the wine flow into the region.
