15 May Air Cargo Market Trends Upwards
The first quarter of 2024 has seen the air cargo market experience an overall growth in tonnage by more than 10% when compared to the same period last year, particularly across the Asia-Europe and Asia-North America east coast trade routes.
This growth is the result of several contributing factors, which include the ecommerce boom, the avoidance of the Suez Canal by ocean carriers which has led to increased transit times and rates, as well as the deteriorating China/Europe rail service via Russia which has been negatively impacted by the Ukraine conflict.
It is speculated that demand will remain consistent over the coming months however if demand does continue to grow it may become more difficult to access capacity, which may create upward pressure on pricing.
