Shanghai handles over 50m TEU

Shanghai Port achieved a historic milestone in 2024, becoming the first port worldwide to handle over 50 million TEUs annually, setting a new global record in the history of port container transport and solidifying its position as the world’s busiest container port for 15 consecutive years.

The port’s growing container volume highlights Shanghai Port’s status as a world-class global shipping hub, ranking in the top three global shipping centres for five consecutive years.

Currently, Shanghai Port maintains connections to over 700 ports in 200+ countries via nearly 350 international shipping services, holding the top spot in global port connectivity for 13 years in a row.

Furthermore, Yangshan Port, part of Shanghai Port, has led the Global Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) for two consecutive years. In 2024, international transshipment volume grew by over 20% year-on-year, with annual transshipments expected to surpass 7 million TEUs.
