World Container Index update

The latest Drewry World Container Index (WCI) decreased this past week by 3% to US$3855 per 40-foot container this week. The average composite index for the year to date is US$3915 per FEU, which is US$1045 higher than the 10-year average rate of US$2865.

The following trade routes experienced decreases: Shanghai-Los Angeles (-5%), Shanghai-New York (-4%), Shanghai-Rotterdam (-3%), Shanghai-Genoa (-2%) and Rotterdam-Shanghai (-1%).

Conversely, the following trade route experienced increases: Rotterdam-New York (4%) and Los Angeles-Shanghai (1%).

Meanwhile, rates from New York-Rotterdam remained stable.

It is anticipated that spot rates will decrease slightly in the coming weeks due to increased capacity.
