15 Apr Port of Melbourne’s Record-Breaking Year
Recent statistics released by the Port of Melbourne have confirmed that 2024 was a record-breaking year for the port, with the highest annual container trade volume ever recorded at the site, reaching a total of 3.396 million TEUs, up nine per cent on 2023.
The growth was driven by increased demand for the import of consumer goods such as furniture, as well as favourable weather conditions which resulted in a strong year for agricultural commodities.
With the Port of Melbourne, the country’s largest general cargo and container port, and one that handles over a third of Australia’s container trade, its critical role as a trade gateway will undoubtedly see its growth continue over the coming years.
