07 Dec China Resumes Australian Hay Exports
In another sign of improving trade relations between China and Australia, China has lifted its ban on Australian hay exports.
Following a two-year ban that saw hay exports to China fall from 360,000 metric tonnes per year (worth $160million) to 60,000 tonnes per year, this trade is now expected to resume with establishments registered for import into China.
As China is only one of four nations who consume 90% of Australia’s hay, this resumption in trade will provide a much-needed boost for Australian farmers, particularly in Western Australia where approximately 60-70 per cent of the entire crop is exported.
This agreement is an encouraging sign that Australia is making solid advancements in the improvement of trade relations with China, increasing optimism about the upcoming wine tariff discussions.
