29 Sep Extra-loader vessels to support USA’s busiest gateway
In response to heavy import volumes and potential industrial action across the US East and Gulf Coasts, shipping organisations are set to deploy 28 “extra-loader” vessels to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach over the coming peak season.
Whilst the looming threat of the ILA industrial action is a factor in this pre-emptive decision, it is predominantly being driven by the strength of the US economy. Although inflationary pressures are impacting higher-end retailers, consumers are still spending on discount retailers, which has contributed to the explosion of Asian imports, which increased 32.8% in Los Angeles and 44.8% in Long Beach year over year.
