ILA ceases new master contract negotiations

The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) has halted new master contract negotiations with maritime employers in response to the issue of introducing semi-automated equipment that could eliminate potential longshore jobs, in particular the usage of rail mounted gantry (RMGs) which are used to stack containers coming off ships for placement on truck chassis.

While both parties have stated that they hope negotiations will restart soon, there has been no confirmation of a re-commencement date at this point in time.
