04 Dec ILA strike suspended until 2025
The International Longshoreman’s Association (ILA) and United States Maritime Alliance Ltd have reached a tentative deal on wages and extended their existing contract through to 15th January 2025 to provide time to negotiate a new contract. This move brought a conclusion to the potential ILA strike that was scheduled to impact the East and Gulf Coasts of USA.
Whilst this tentative agreement does include a wage increase, it is yet to be finalised and ratified. In addition, automation remains an outstanding issue, which if not resolved, will trigger a resumption of industrial action including a potential strike or slowdown, from the aforementioned date in January.
As of now, port activities have resumed as per normal operations and the port congestion which resulted from the three-day strike is anticipated to be resolved within the next few weeks.
