15 Dec MUA Announces Further Industrial Action
The Maritime Union of Australia has announced that further protected industrial action will continue across all four DP World Terminals: Brisbane, Fremantle, Melbourne and Sydney.
This unfaltering industrial action commenced in early October after negotiations for a new enterprise bargaining agreement collapsed. It is understood that both DP World and the MUA are currently in negotiations at the Fair Work Commission.
The upcoming protected industrial action continues to take the same form as previous notifications and includes bans on working vessels operated by certain shipping lines, three two-hour work bans per day (except at Sydney, where the bans are one hour long), bans on working a vessel for eight hours when it is alongside, amongst others.
It is anticipated that the industrial action will continue to have significant operational consequences impacting both exporters and importers across all DP World terminals. This may include a repeat of the many repercussions that have already occurred as a result of MUA action such as vessel delays, port omissions, terminal changes, rotation changes, additional trucker shifts and potentially causing additional costs to import/export cargo.
