05 Aug New maritime cyber security body launched
This month has seen the launch of the International Maritime Cyber Security Organisation (IMCSO) in the United Kingdom, a not-for-profit body committed to improving standards of cybersecurity risk management across the maritime industry.
IMCSO’s mission is to be the standard in the maritime cyber security industry, a collective voice working towards alignment and standardisation by setting frameworks for effective, universally adoptable methodology and innovating for future developments.
IMCSO has developed a certification program for security consultants and a professional registry, aimed at helping shipping organisations choose qualified personnel with relevant experience. Alongside this, IMCSO will also validate report outputs to ensure consistency with those reports held on a central database and made accessible to the authorities and third parties that need to determine the risk status of a vessel.
This information will be used to inform the International Maritime Organization (IMO), shipbuilders, insurers, and management companies of industry trends, providing a valuable service currently lacking for other service and insurance providers.
