27 Feb New Zealand Dairy Exports Celebrate CPTPP Win Over Canada
A recent legal ruling has seen the Dairy Companies Association of New Zealand’s (DCANZ) claim that Canada has failed to implement its dairy market commitments under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) validated.
The panel of international trade law experts upheld NZ’s claims that Canada is not complying with the agreement’s requirements to administer quotas in a manner that allows importers to utilise the volumes fully, and to not limit access to a quota allocation to its processors.
Whilst the legal ruling is welcome, DCANZ has expressed frustration that Canada has failed to fulfill its obligations for four years and is imploring the Canadian Government to do the right thing by changing to a system that is fair and does not require other trading partners to seek adherence to a trade agreement via legal action.
