04 Dec NSW Government to develop strategy for better regional rail
The New South Wales Government has announced a Regional Network East/West Uplift (RNEW) program which is a 10-year investment pipeline that aims to develop improved regional rail for both freight and passengers.
A key element of this program is the improvement of the Country Regional Network (CRN) which includes over 2300 kilometres of operational rail lines, vital for transporting 2.7 billion gross tonnes of freight per annum.
It is anticipated that this RNEW program will complement regional integrated transport plans being developed across the nine regional areas in the state.
The RNEW program team will commence engagement with stakeholders such as freight industry, rail operators and users, and local government in 2025, with the final strategy delivered in 2026.
