18 Mar ReFuelEU To Apply To Airlines Flying In And Out Of EU Nations
The EU has announced new regulations around sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) expectations for airlines that fly within or depart from EU nations.
These new green laws ReFuelEU focus on aviation and outlines that all flights departing from and to an EU airport must use a minimum share of SAF, starting with 2% in 2025 and gradually rising to 70% by 2050.
However there are concerns that this requirement could increase the price of SAF and ultimately impact airline customers such as commercial passengers and cargo shippers, which is why the International Air Transport Association (IATA) is calling for a comprehensive policy framework from the EU and more flexible rules of supply to incentivise production of the sustainable fuel.
