Typhoon Bebinca closes Ports Shanghai and Ningbo

Vessel bunching caused by Typhoon Bebinca has seen operations disrupted at Shanghai and Ningbo ports, potentially impacting vessel schedules at destination ports.

The strongest typhoon to hit Shanghai since 1949, the ships that moved away in anticipation of the storm will return over the coming days, resulting in vessel bunching that is expected to cause delays lasting over a week.

Currently, berth waiting times are 36-60 hours for Shanghai and 24-48 hours for Ningbo as they both work through the disruptions. Compounding the situation is the fact that ports in southern China and Vietnam are still recovering from the effects of the recent typhoon Yagi which has seen waiting times of up to four days to berth in Yantian.
