The latest Drewry World Container Index (WCI) increased this past week, reversing the recent downward trend.
The average composite index for the year to date is US$4017 per FEU, which is US$1178 higher than the 10-year average rate of US$2839.
The following trade routes experienced increases: Shanghai-Genoa (11%), Shanghai-Rotterdam (8%), Shanghai-Los Angeles (1%), Los Angeles-Shanghai (1%). Conversely, the following route experienced a decrease: Rotterdam-Shanghai (-1%).
Meanwhile, rates from Shanghai-New York, New York-Rotterdam and vice-versa remained stable.
It is anticipated that spot rates ex-China will continue to increase the run up to Christmas.
