
07 Jan World Container Index update
The latest Drewry World Container Index (WCI) increased this past week by 3% to US$3905 per 40-foot container this week. The average composite index for the year to date is US$3905 per FEU, which is US$1040 higher than the 10-year average rate of US$2865.
The following trade routes experienced increases: Shanghai-Los Angeles (7%), Shanghai-New York (6%), Rotterdam-Shanghai (2%) and New York-Rotterdam (2%).
Conversely, the following trade route experienced a decrease: Shanghai-Rotterdam (-1%).
Meanwhile, rates from Shanghai-Genoa, Los Angeles-Shanghai and Rotterdam-New York remained stable.
It is anticipated that rates on the Transpacific trade will increase over the upcoming weeks due to the looming threat of the ILA port strike in January 2025, as well as the anticipated tariff hikes under the incoming Trump Administration.
