World Container Index Update

The latest Drewry World Container Index (WCI) Index decreased 4% to US$2168 per 40-foot container this week. The average composite index for the year to date is US$3053 per FEU, which is US$167 higher than the 10-year average rate of US$2886.

The following trade routes experienced decreases: Rotterdam-New York (-7%), Shanghai-Los Angeles (-6%), Shanghai-Rotterdam (-4%), Shanghai-New York (-4%) and Shanghai-Genoa (-3%).

Conversely, the following trade routes experienced increases: Rotterdam-Shanghai (3%) and Los Angeles-Shanghai (1%).

Meanwhile, rates from New York-Rotterdam remained stable.

It is anticipated that rates will decrease slightly in the upcoming weeks.
