15 Feb World Container Index Update
The Drewry World Container Index (WCI) has increased these past few weeks, but has overall experienced a drop of 28% when compared to the same period last year and is now 7% more than average 2019 (pre-pandemic) rates.
The following trade routes all experienced an increase in freight rates: Shanghai-Rotterdam, Shanghai-Genoa, Shanghai-New York, Rotterdam-Shanghai, Los Angeles-Shanghai (and vice-versa) and New York-Rotterdam. Meanwhile, Rotterdam-New York rates remained stable.
It is anticipated that east-west spot rates on lanes will remain close to current levels in the upcoming weeks.
