18 Mar World Container Index Update
The latest Drewry World Container Index (WCI) decreased by 5% to US$3493 per 40-foot container this week, however experienced an 88% increase when compared to the same week last year.
The average composite index for the year to date is US$3553 per 40-foot container, which is $859 higher than the 10-year average rate of $2694.
The following trade routes experienced decreases: Shanghai-Genoa (-6%), Shanghai-New York (-3%) and Shanghai-Los Angeles (-4%).
Conversely, the following routes experienced increases: Los Angeles-Shanghai and New York-Rotterdam both rose by 2%, whilst Rotterdam-Shanghai and Rotterdam-New York increased by 1%.
A slight decrease in spot rates from China is expected over the coming weeks.
